A large robust kingfisher that has a whitish head with a dark eye-stripe. The kookaburra's wings are mostly dark brown with mottled light-blue patches.
The laughing kookaburra has a distinctive call that is an iconic sound of the Australian bushland.
Kookaburras grow to between 28–42 cm (11–17 in) in length.
